Surah Al-Waqia (the event, the inevitable)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Total Verses : 96 - Listen to Recitation of this Surah with Translation

Ayah: 1
Arabic:	إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ
Yusuf Ali:	When the Event inevitable cometh to pass,

Ayah: 2
Arabic:	لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
Yusuf Ali:	Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming.

Ayah: 3
Arabic:	خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
Yusuf Ali:	(Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt;

Ayah: 4
Arabic:	إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
Yusuf Ali:	When the earth shall be shaken to its depths,

Ayah: 5
Arabic:	وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
Yusuf Ali:	And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms,

Ayah: 6
Arabic:	فَكَانَتْ هَبَاء مُّنبَثًّا
Yusuf Ali:	Becoming dust scattered abroad,

Ayah: 7
Arabic:	وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً
Yusuf Ali:	And ye shall be sorted out into three classes.

Ayah: 8
Arabic:	فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ
Yusuf Ali:	Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand?

Ayah: 9
Arabic:	وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ
Yusuf Ali:	And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?

Ayah: 10
Arabic:	وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter).

Ayah: 11
Arabic:	أُوْلَئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	These will be those Nearest to Allah:

Ayah: 12
Arabic:	فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	In Gardens of Bliss:

Ayah: 13
Arabic:	ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	A number of people from those of old,

Ayah: 14
Arabic:	وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	And a few from those of later times.

Ayah: 15
Arabic:	عَلَى سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
Yusuf Ali:	(They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones),

Ayah: 16
Arabic:	مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Reclining on them, facing each other.

Ayah: 17
Arabic:	يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness),

Ayah: 18
Arabic:	بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
Yusuf Ali:	With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains:

Ayah: 19
Arabic:	لَا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication:

Ayah: 20
Arabic:	وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	And with fruits, any that they may select:

Ayah: 21
Arabic:	وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire.

Ayah: 22
Arabic:	وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
Yusuf Ali:	And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,-

Ayah: 23
Arabic:	كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ
Yusuf Ali:	Like unto Pearls well-guarded.

Ayah: 24
Arabic:	جَزَاء بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	A Reward for the deeds of their past (life).

Ayah: 25
Arabic:	لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
Yusuf Ali:	Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,-

Ayah: 26
Arabic:	إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا
Yusuf Ali:	Only the saying, "Peace! Peace".

Ayah: 27
Arabic:	وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ
Yusuf Ali:	The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?

Ayah: 28
Arabic:	فِي سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
Yusuf Ali:	(They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns,

Ayah: 29
Arabic:	وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,-

Ayah: 30
Arabic:	وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
Yusuf Ali:	In shade long-extended,

Ayah: 31
Arabic:	وَمَاء مَّسْكُوبٍ
Yusuf Ali:	By water flowing constantly,

Ayah: 32
Arabic:	وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And fruit in abundance.

Ayah: 33
Arabic:	لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden,

Ayah: 34
Arabic:	وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high.

Ayah: 35
Arabic:	إِنَّا أَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنشَاء
Yusuf Ali:	We have created (their Companions) of special creation.

Ayah: 36
Arabic:	فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
Yusuf Ali:	And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), -

Ayah: 37
Arabic:	عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
Yusuf Ali:	Beloved (by nature), equal in age,-

Ayah: 38
Arabic:	لِّأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
Yusuf Ali:	For the Companions of the Right Hand.

Ayah: 39
Arabic:	ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	A (goodly) number from those of old,

Ayah: 40
Arabic:	وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	And a (goodly) number from those of later times.

Ayah: 41
Arabic:	وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ
Yusuf Ali:	The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?

Ayah: 42
Arabic:	فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
Yusuf Ali:	(They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water,

Ayah: 43
Arabic:	وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And in the shades of Black Smoke:

Ayah: 44
Arabic:	لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please:

Ayah: 45
Arabic:	إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury),

Ayah: 46
Arabic:	وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنثِ الْعَظِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme!

Ayah: 47
Arabic:	وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?-

Ayah: 48
Arabic:	أَوَ آبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	"(We) and our fathers of old?"

Ayah: 49
Arabic:	قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times,

Ayah: 50
Arabic:	لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
Yusuf Ali:	"All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known.

Ayah: 51
Arabic:	ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	"Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!-

Ayah: 52
Arabic:	لَآكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
Yusuf Ali:	"Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum.

Ayah: 53
Arabic:	فَمَالِؤُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	"Then will ye fill your insides therewith,

Ayah: 54
Arabic:	فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	"And drink Boiling Water on top of it:

Ayah: 55
Arabic:	فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	"Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!"

Ayah: 56
Arabic:	هَذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ
Yusuf Ali:	Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital!

Ayah: 57
Arabic:	نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth?

Ayah: 58
Arabic:	أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,-

Ayah: 59
Arabic:	أَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators?

Ayah: 60
Arabic:	نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated

Ayah: 61
Arabic:	عَلَى أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not.

Ayah: 62
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُولَى فَلَوْلَا تَذكَّرُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises?

Ayah: 63
Arabic:	أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground?

Ayah: 64
Arabic:	أَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause?

Ayah: 65
Arabic:	لَوْ نَشَاء لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment,

Ayah: 66
Arabic:	إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	(Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing):

Ayah: 67
Arabic:	بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	"Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)"

Ayah: 68
Arabic:	أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاء الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	See ye the water which ye drink?

Ayah: 69
Arabic:	أَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنزِلُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We?

Ayah: 70
Arabic:	لَوْ نَشَاء جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks?

Ayah: 71
Arabic:	أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	See ye the Fire which ye kindle?

Ayah: 72
Arabic:	أَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنشِؤُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it?

Ayah: 73
Arabic:	نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَاعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts.

Ayah: 74
Arabic:	فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme!

Ayah: 75
Arabic:	فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ
Yusuf Ali:	Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars,-

Ayah: 76
Arabic:	وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
Yusuf Ali:	And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew,-

Ayah: 77
Arabic:	إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ
Yusuf Ali:	That this is indeed a qur'an Most Honourable,

Ayah: 78
Arabic:	فِي كِتَابٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
Yusuf Ali:	In Book well-guarded,

Ayah: 79
Arabic:	لَّا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Which none shall touch but those who are clean:

Ayah: 80
Arabic:	تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

Ayah: 81
Arabic:	أَفَبِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Is it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem?

Ayah: 82
Arabic:	وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	And have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false?

Ayah: 83
Arabic:	فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ
Yusuf Ali:	Then why do ye not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat,-

Ayah: 84
Arabic:	وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	And ye the while (sit) looking on,-

Ayah: 85
Arabic:	وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	But We are nearer to him than ye, and yet see not,-

Ayah: 86
Arabic:	فَلَوْلَا إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Then why do ye not,- If you are exempt from (future) account,-

Ayah: 87
Arabic:	تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Call back the soul, if ye are true (in the claim of independence)?

Ayah: 88
Arabic:	فَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Thus, then, if he be of those Nearest to Allah,

Ayah: 89
Arabic:	فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ
Yusuf Ali:	(There is for him) Rest and Satisfaction, and a Garden of Delights.

Ayah: 90
Arabic:	وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
Yusuf Ali:	And if he be of the Companions of the Right Hand,

Ayah: 91
Arabic:	فَسَلَامٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
Yusuf Ali:	(For him is the salutation), "Peace be unto thee", from the Companions of the Right Hand.

Ayah: 92
Arabic:	وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ
Yusuf Ali:	And if he be of those who treat (Truth) as Falsehood, who go wrong,

Ayah: 93
Arabic:	فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
Yusuf Ali:	For him is Entertainment with Boiling Water.

Ayah: 94
Arabic:	وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And burning in Hell-Fire.

Ayah: 95
Arabic:	إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ
Yusuf Ali:	Verily, this is the Very Truth and Certainly.

Ayah: 96
Arabic:	فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	So celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme.
