182 - Listen to Recitation of this Surah with Translation

Ayah: 1
Arabic: وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا
Pickthal: By those who set the ranks in battle order
Shakir: I swear by those who draw themselves out in ranks
Yusuf Ali: By those who range themselves in ranks,

Ayah: 2
Arabic: فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا
Pickthal: And those who drive away (the wicked) with reproof
Shakir: Then those who drive away with reproof,
Yusuf Ali: And so are strong in repelling (evil),

Ayah: 3
Arabic: فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا
Pickthal: And those who read (the Word) for a reminder,
Shakir: Then those who recite, being mindful,
Yusuf Ali: And thus proclaim the Message (of Allah)!

Ayah: 4
Arabic: إِنَّ إِلَهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ
Pickthal: Lo! thy Lord is surely One;
Shakir: Most surely your Allah is One:
Yusuf Ali: Verily, verily, your Allah is one!-

Ayah: 5
Arabic: رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ
Pickthal: Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all that is between them, and Lord of the sun's risings.
Shakir: The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and Lord of the easts.
Yusuf Ali: Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun!

Ayah: 6
Arabic: إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاء الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ
Pickthal: Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets;
Shakir: Surely We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars,
Yusuf Ali: We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,-

Ayah: 7
Arabic: وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَّارِدٍ
Pickthal: With security from every froward devil.
Shakir: And (there is) a safeguard against every rebellious Shaitan.
Yusuf Ali: (For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits,

Ayah: 8
Arabic: لَا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَى وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ
Pickthal: They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side,
Shakir: They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are thrown at from every side,
Yusuf Ali: (So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side,

Ayah: 9
Arabic: دُحُورًا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ
Pickthal: Outcast, and theirs is a perpetual torment;
Shakir: Being driven off, and for them is a perpetual chastisement,
Yusuf Ali: Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty,

Ayah: 10
Arabic: إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ
Pickthal: Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame.
Shakir: Except him who snatches off but once, then there follows him a brightly shining flame.
Yusuf Ali: Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness.

Ayah: 11
Arabic: فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَا إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍ
Pickthal: Then ask them (O Muhammad): Are they stronger as a creation, or those (others) whom we have created? Lo! We created them of plasticclay.
Shakir: Then ask them whether they are stronger in creation or those (others) whom We have created. Surely We created them of firm clay.
Yusuf Ali: Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of asticky clay!

Ayah: 12
Arabic: بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ
Pickthal: Nay, but thou dost marvel when they mock
Shakir: Nay! you wonder while they mock,
Yusuf Ali: Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule,

Ayah: 13
Arabic: وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ
Pickthal: And heed not when they are reminded,
Shakir: And when they are reminded, they mind not,
Yusuf Ali: And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,-

Ayah: 14
Arabic: وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ
Pickthal: And seek to scoff when they behold a portent.
Shakir: And when they see a sign they incite one another to scoff,
Yusuf Ali: And, when they see a Sign, turn it to mockery,

Ayah: 15
Arabic: وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ
Pickthal: And they say: Lo! this is mere magic;
Shakir: And they say: This is nothing but clear magic:
Yusuf Ali: And say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery!

Ayah: 16
Arabic: أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
Pickthal: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised (again)?
Shakir: What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then certainly be raised,
Yusuf Ali: "What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again)

Ayah: 17
Arabic: أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ
Pickthal: And our forefathers?
Shakir: Or our fathers of yore?
Yusuf Ali: "And also our fathers of old?"

Ayah: 18
Arabic: قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ
Pickthal: Say (O Muhammad): Ye, in truth; and ye will be brought low.
Shakir: Say: Aye! and you shall be abject.
Yusuf Ali: Say thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)."

Ayah: 19
Arabic: فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ
Pickthal: There is but one Shout, and lo! they behold,
Shakir: So it shall only be a single cry, when lo! they shall see.
Yusuf Ali: Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see!

Ayah: 20
Arabic: وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ
Pickthal: And say: Ah, woe for us! This is the Day of Judgment.
Shakir: And they shall say: O woe to us! this is the day of requital.
Yusuf Ali: They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!"

Ayah: 21
Arabic: هَذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Pickthal: This is the Day of Separation, which ye used to deny.
Shakir: This is the day of the judgment which you called a lie.
Yusuf Ali: (A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied!"

Ayah: 22
Arabic: احْشُرُوا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ
Pickthal: (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship
Shakir: Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship
Yusuf Ali: "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped-

Ayah: 23
Arabic: مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ إِلَى صِرَاطِ الْجَحِيمِ
Pickthal: Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell;
Shakir: Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell.
Yusuf Ali: "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire!

Ayah: 24
Arabic: وَقِفُوهُمْ إِنَّهُم مَّسْئُولُونَ
Pickthal: And stop them, for they must be questioned.
Shakir: And stop them, for they shall be questioned:
Yusuf Ali: "But stop them, for they must be asked:

Ayah: 25
Arabic: مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ
Pickthal: What aileth you that ye help not one another?
Shakir: What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?
Yusuf Ali: "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'"

Ayah: 26
Arabic: بَلْ هُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ
Pickthal: Nay, but this day they make full submission.
Shakir: Nay! on that day they shall be submissive.
Yusuf Ali: Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment);

Ayah: 27
Arabic: وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءلُونَ
Pickthal: And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning.
Shakir: And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other.
Yusuf Ali: And they will turn to one another, and question one another.

Ayah: 28
Arabic: قَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ الْيَمِينِ
Pickthal: They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth).
Shakir: They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side.
Yusuf Ali: They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!"

Ayah: 29
Arabic: قَالُوا بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers.
Shakir: They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers;
Yusuf Ali: They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith!

Ayah: 30
Arabic: وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَانٍ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَاغِينَ
Pickthal: We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk.
Shakir: And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people;
Yusuf Ali: "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion!

Ayah: 31
Arabic: فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا لَذَائِقُونَ
Pickthal: Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom).
Shakir: So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste;
Yusuf Ali: "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins).

Ayah: 32
Arabic: فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَاوِينَ
Pickthal: Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray.
Shakir: So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring.
Yusuf Ali: "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray."

Ayah: 33
Arabic: فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ
Pickthal: Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom.
Shakir: So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another.
Yusuf Ali: Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty.

Ayah: 34
Arabic: إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! thus deal We with the guilty.
Shakir: Surely thus do We deal with the guilty.
Yusuf Ali: Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners.

Ayah: 35
Arabic: إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
Pickthal: For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful
Shakir: Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah;
Yusuf Ali: For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride,

Ayah: 36
Arabic: وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوا آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍ
Pickthal: And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet?
Shakir: And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet?
Yusuf Ali: And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?"

Ayah: 37
Arabic: بَلْ جَاء بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him).
Shakir: Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the messengers.
Yusuf Ali: Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him).

Ayah: 38
Arabic: إِنَّكُمْ لَذَائِقُو الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ
Pickthal: Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom -
Shakir: Most surely you will taste the painful punishment.
Yusuf Ali: Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;-

Ayah: 39
Arabic: وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Pickthal: Ye are requited naught save what ye did -
Shakir: And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did.
Yusuf Ali: But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;-

Ayah: 40
Arabic: إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ
Pickthal: Save single-minded slaves of Allah;
Shakir: Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones.
Yusuf Ali: But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,-

Ayah: 41
Arabic: أُوْلَئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌ
Pickthal: For them there is a known provision,
Shakir: For them is a known sustenance,
Yusuf Ali: For them is a Sustenance determined,

Ayah: 42
Arabic: فَوَاكِهُ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ
Pickthal: Fruits. And they will be honoured
Shakir: Fruits, and they shall be highly honored,
Yusuf Ali: Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity,

Ayah: 43
Arabic: فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ
Pickthal: In the Gardens of delight,
Shakir: In gardens of pleasure,
Yusuf Ali: In Gardens of Felicity,

Ayah: 44
Arabic: عَلَى سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ
Pickthal: On couches facing one another;
Shakir: On thrones, facing each other.
Yusuf Ali: Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity):

Ayah: 45
Arabic: يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِن مَّعِينٍ
Pickthal: A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them,
Shakir: A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs,
Yusuf Ali: Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain,

Ayah: 46
Arabic: بَيْضَاء لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّارِبِينَ
Pickthal: White, delicious to the drinkers,
Shakir: White, delicious to those who drink.
Yusuf Ali: Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof),

Ayah: 47
Arabic: لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ
Pickthal: Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby.
Shakir: There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith.
Yusuf Ali: Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom.

Ayah: 48
Arabic: وَعِنْدَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ عِينٌ
Pickthal: And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes,
Shakir: And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes;
Yusuf Ali: And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty).

Ayah: 49
Arabic: كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌ
Pickthal: (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich).
Shakir: As if they were eggs carefully protected.
Yusuf Ali: As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded.

Ayah: 50
Arabic: فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءلُونَ
Pickthal: And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning.
Shakir: Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other.
Yusuf Ali: Then they will turn to one another and question one another.

Ayah: 51
Arabic: قَالَ قَائِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي قَرِينٌ
Pickthal: A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade
Shakir: A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine,
Yusuf Ali: One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth),

Ayah: 52
Arabic: يَقُولُ أَئِنَّكَ لَمِنْ الْمُصَدِّقِينَ
Pickthal: Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)?
Shakir: Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)?
Yusuf Ali: "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)?

Ayah: 53
Arabic: أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَئِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ
Pickthal: Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book?
Shakir: What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment?
Yusuf Ali: "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'"

Ayah: 54
Arabic: قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ
Pickthal: He saith: Will ye look?
Shakir: He shall say: Will you look on?
Yusuf Ali: (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?"

Ayah: 55
Arabic: فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَآهُ فِي سَوَاء الْجَحِيمِ
Pickthal: Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell.
Shakir: Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell.
Yusuf Ali: He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire.

Ayah: 56
Arabic: قَالَ تَاللَّهِ إِنْ كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ
Pickthal: He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin,
Shakir: He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish;
Yusuf Ali: He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition!

Ayah: 57
Arabic: وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّي لَكُنتُ مِنَ الْمُحْضَرِينَ
Pickthal: And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom).
Shakir: And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up.
Yusuf Ali: "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)!

Ayah: 58
Arabic: أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ
Pickthal: Are we then not to die
Shakir: Is it then that we are not going to die,
Yusuf Ali: "Is it (the case) that we shall not die,

Ayah: 59
Arabic: إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا الْأُولَى وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
Pickthal: Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished?
Shakir: Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised?
Yusuf Ali: "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?"

Ayah: 60
Arabic: إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ
Pickthal: Lo! this is the supreme triumph.
Shakir: Most surely this is the mighty achievement.
Yusuf Ali: Verily this is the supreme achievement!

Ayah: 61
Arabic: لِمِثْلِ هَذَا فَلْيَعْمَلْ الْعَامِلُونَ
Pickthal: For the like of this, then, let the workers work.
Shakir: For the like of this then let the workers work.
Yusuf Ali: For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive.

Ayah: 62
Arabic: أَذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ
Pickthal: Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum?
Shakir: Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum?
Yusuf Ali: Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum?

Ayah: 63
Arabic: إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّالِمِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers.
Shakir: Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust.
Yusuf Ali: For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers.

Ayah: 64
Arabic: إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ الْجَحِيمِ
Pickthal: Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell.
Shakir: Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell;
Yusuf Ali: For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire:

Ayah: 65
Arabic: طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ رُؤُوسُ الشَّيَاطِينِ
Pickthal: Its crop is as it were the heads of devils
Shakir: Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents.
Yusuf Ali: The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils:

Ayah: 66
Arabic: فَإِنَّهُمْ لَآكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِؤُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ
Pickthal: And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith.
Shakir: Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it.
Yusuf Ali: Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith.

Ayah: 67
Arabic: ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
Pickthal: And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water
Shakir: Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water.
Yusuf Ali: Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water.

Ayah: 68
Arabic: ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى الْجَحِيمِ
Pickthal: And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell.
Shakir: Then most surely their return shall be to hell.
Yusuf Ali: Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire.

Ayah: 69
Arabic: إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا آبَاءهُمْ ضَالِّينَ
Pickthal: They indeed found their fathers astray,
Shakir: Surely they found their fathers going astray,
Yusuf Ali: Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path;

Ayah: 70
Arabic: فَهُمْ عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ
Pickthal: But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps.
Shakir: So in their footsteps they are being hastened on.
Yusuf Ali: So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps!

Ayah: 71
Arabic: وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Pickthal: And verily most of the men of old went astray before them,
Shakir: And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them,
Yusuf Ali: And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;-

Ayah: 72
Arabic: وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ
Pickthal: And verily We sent among them warners.
Shakir: And certainly We sent among them warners.
Yusuf Ali: But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;-

Ayah: 73
Arabic: فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنذَرِينَ
Pickthal: Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned,
Shakir: Then see how was the end of those warned,
Yusuf Ali: Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),-

Ayah: 74
Arabic: إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ
Pickthal: Save single-minded slaves of Allah.
Shakir: Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones.
Yusuf Ali: Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah.

Ayah: 75
Arabic: وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِيبُونَ
Pickthal: And Noah verily prayed unto Us, and gracious was the Hearer of his prayer
Shakir: And Nuh did certainly call upon Us, and most excellent answerer of prayer are We.
Yusuf Ali: (In the days of old), Noah cried to Us, and We are the best to hear prayer.

Ayah: 76
Arabic: وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ
Pickthal: And We saved him and his household from the great distress,
Shakir: And We delivered him and his followers from the mighty distress.
Yusuf Ali: And We delivered him and his people from the Great Calamity,

Ayah: 77
Arabic: وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمْ الْبَاقِينَ
Pickthal: And made his seed the survivors,
Shakir: And We made his offspring the survivors.
Yusuf Ali: And made his progeny to endure (on this earth);

Ayah: 78
Arabic: وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ
Pickthal: And left for him among the later folk (the salutation):
Shakir: And We perpetuated to him (praise) among the later generations.
Yusuf Ali: And We left (this blessing) for him among generations to come in later times:

Ayah: 79
Arabic: سَلَامٌ عَلَى نُوحٍ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: Peace be unto Noah among the peoples!
Shakir: Peace and salutation to Nuh among the nations.
Yusuf Ali: "Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations!"

Ayah: 80
Arabic: إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! thus do We reward the good.
Shakir: Thus do We surely reward the doers of good.
Yusuf Ali: Thus indeed do we reward those who do right.

Ayah: 81
Arabic: إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves.
Shakir: Surely he was of Our believing servants.
Yusuf Ali: For he was one of our believing Servants.

Ayah: 82
Arabic: ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا الْآخَرِينَ
Pickthal: Then We did drown the others.
Shakir: Then We drowned the others
Yusuf Ali: Then the rest we overwhelmed in the Flood.

Ayah: 83
Arabic: وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِ لَإِبْرَاهِيمَ
Pickthal: And lo! of his persuasion verily was Abraham
Shakir: And most surely Ibrahim followed his way.
Yusuf Ali: Verily among those who followed his Way was Abraham.

Ayah: 84
Arabic: إِذْ جَاء رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
Pickthal: When he came unto his Lord with a whole heart;
Shakir: When he came to his Lord with a free heart,
Yusuf Ali: Behold! he approached his Lord with a sound heart.

Ayah: 85
Arabic: إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ
Pickthal: When he said unto his father and his folk: What is it that ye worship?
Shakir: When he said to his father and his people: What is it that you worship?
Yusuf Ali: Behold! he said to his father and to his people, "What is that which ye worship?

Ayah: 86
Arabic: أَئِفْكًا آلِهَةً دُونَ اللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ
Pickthal: Is it a falsehood - gods beside Allah - that ye desire?
Shakir: A lie-- gods besides Allah-- do you desire?
Yusuf Ali: "Is it a falsehood- gods other than Allah- that ye desire?

Ayah: 87
Arabic: فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: What then is your opinion of the Lord of the Worlds?
Shakir: What is then your idea about the Lord of the worlds?
Yusuf Ali: "Then what is your idea about the Lord of the worlds?"

Ayah: 88
Arabic: فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِي النُّجُومِ
Pickthal: And he glanced a glance at the stars
Shakir: Then he looked at the stars, looking up once,
Yusuf Ali: Then did he cast a glance at the Stars.

Ayah: 89
Arabic: فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمٌ
Pickthal: Then said: Lo! I feel sick!
Shakir: Then he said: Surely I am sick (of your worshipping these).
Yusuf Ali: And he said, "I am indeed sick (at heart)!"

Ayah: 90
Arabic: فَتَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ
Pickthal: And they turned their backs and went away from him.
Shakir: So they went away from him, turning back.
Yusuf Ali: So they turned away from him, and departed.

Ayah: 91
Arabic: فَرَاغَ إِلَى آلِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ
Pickthal: Then turned he to their gods and said: Will ye not eat?
Shakir: Then he turned aside to their gods secretly and said: What! do you not eat?
Yusuf Ali: Then did he turn to their gods and said, "will ye not eat (of the offerings before you)?...

Ayah: 92
Arabic: مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ
Pickthal: What aileth you that ye speak not?
Shakir: What is the matter with you that you do not speak?
Yusuf Ali: "What is the matter with you that ye speak not (intelligently)?"

Ayah: 93
Arabic: فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًا بِالْيَمِينِ
Pickthal: Then he attacked them, striking with his right hand.
Shakir: Then he turned against them secretly, smiting them with the right hand.
Yusuf Ali: Then did he turn upon them, striking (them) with the right hand.

Ayah: 94
Arabic: فَأَقْبَلُوا إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ
Pickthal: And (his people) came toward him, hastening.
Shakir: So they (people) advanced towards him, hastening.
Yusuf Ali: Then came (the worshippers) with hurried steps, and faced (him).

Ayah: 95
Arabic: قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ
Pickthal: He said: Worship ye that which ye yourselves do carve
Shakir: Said he: What! do you worship what you hew out?
Yusuf Ali: He said: "Worship ye that which ye have (yourselves) carved?

Ayah: 96
Arabic: وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
Pickthal: When Allah hath created you and what ye make?
Shakir: And Allah has created you and what you make.
Yusuf Ali: "But Allah has created you and your handwork!"

Ayah: 97
Arabic: قَالُوا ابْنُوا لَهُ بُنْيَانًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِي الْجَحِيمِ
Pickthal: They said: Build for him a building and fling him in the red-hotfire.
Shakir: They said: Build for him a furnace, then cast him into the burning fire.
Yusuf Ali: They said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire!"

Ayah: 98
Arabic: فَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَسْفَلِينَ
Pickthal: And they designed a snare for him, but We made them the undermost.
Shakir: And they desired a war against him, but We brought them low.
Yusuf Ali: (This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated!

Ayah: 99
Arabic: وَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَاهِبٌ إِلَى رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ
Pickthal: And he said: Lo! I am going unto my Lord Who will guide me.
Shakir: And he said: Surely I fly to my lord; He will guide me.
Yusuf Ali: He said: "I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me!

Ayah: 100
Arabic: رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
Pickthal: My Lord! Vouchsafe me of the righteous.
Shakir: My Lord! grant me of the doers of good deeds.
Yusuf Ali: "O my Lord! Grant me a righteous (son)!"

Ayah: 101
Arabic: فَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِغُلَامٍ حَلِيمٍ
Pickthal: So We gave him tidings of a gentle son.
Shakir: So We gave him the good news of a boy, possessing forbearance.
Yusuf Ali: So We gave him the good news of a boy ready to suffer and forbear.

Ayah: 102
Arabic: فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ السَّعْيَ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنِّي أَرَى فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ فَانظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَى قَالَ يَا أَبَتِ افْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ سَتَجِدُنِي إِن شَاء اللَّهُ مِنَ الصَّابِرِينَ
Pickthal: And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him, (Abraham) said: O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. Solook, what thinkest thou? He said: O my father! Do that which thou artcommanded. Allah willing, thou shalt find me of the steadfast.
Shakir: And when he attained to working with him, he said: O my son! surely I have seen in a dream that I should sacrifice you; consider then what you see. He said: O my father! do what you are commanded; if Allah please, you will find me of the patient ones.
Yusuf Ali: Then, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice:Now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou artcommanded: thou will find me, if Allah so wills one practising Patience andConstancy!"

Ayah: 103
Arabic: فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُ لِلْجَبِينِ
Pickthal: Then, when they had both surrendered (to Allah), and he had flung him down upon his face,
Shakir: So when they both submitted and he threw him down upon his forehead,
Yusuf Ali: So when they had both submitted their wills (to Allah), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice),

Ayah: 104
Arabic: وَنَادَيْنَاهُ أَنْ يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ
Pickthal: We called unto him: O Abraham!
Shakir: And We called out to him saying: O Ibrahim!
Yusuf Ali: We called out to him "O Abraham!

Ayah: 105
Arabic: قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ الرُّؤْيَا إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Pickthal: Thou hast already fulfilled the vision. Lo! thus do We reward the good.
Shakir: You have indeed shown the truth of the vision; surely thus do We reward the doers of good:
Yusuf Ali: "Thou hast already fulfilled the vision!" - thus indeed do We reward those who do right.

Ayah: 106
Arabic: إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ الْبَلَاء الْمُبِينُ
Pickthal: Lo! that verily was a clear test.
Shakir: Most surely this is a manifest trial.
Yusuf Ali: For this was obviously a trial-

Ayah: 107
Arabic: وَفَدَيْنَاهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍ
Pickthal: Then We ransomed him with a tremendous victim.
Shakir: And We ransomed him with a Feat sacrifice.
Yusuf Ali: And We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice:

Ayah: 108
Arabic: وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ
Pickthal: And We left for him among the later folk (the salutation):
Shakir: And We perpetuated (praise) to him among the later generations.
Yusuf Ali: And We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times:

Ayah: 109
Arabic: سَلَامٌ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ
Pickthal: Peace be unto Abraham!
Shakir: Peace be on Ibrahim.
Yusuf Ali: "Peace and salutation to Abraham!"

Ayah: 110
Arabic: كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Pickthal: Thus do We reward the good.
Shakir: Thus do We reward the doers of good.
Yusuf Ali: Thus indeed do We reward those who do right.

Ayah: 111
Arabic: إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves.
Shakir: Surely he was one of Our believing servants.
Yusuf Ali: For he was one of our believing Servants.

Ayah: 112
Arabic: وَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِإِسْحَقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
Pickthal: And we gave him tidings of the birth of Isaac, a prophet of the righteous.
Shakir: And We gave him the good news of Ishaq, a prophet among the good ones.
Yusuf Ali: And We gave him the good news of Isaac - a prophet,- one of the Righteous.

Ayah: 113
Arabic: وَبَارَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى إِسْحَقَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِ مُبِينٌ
Pickthal: And We blessed him and Isaac. And of their seed are some who do good, and some who plainly wrong themselves.
Shakir: And We showered Our blessings on him and on Ishaq; and of their offspring are the doers of good, and (also) those who are clearly unjust to their own souls.
Yusuf Ali: We blessed him and Isaac: but of their progeny are (some) that do right, and (some) that obviously do wrong, to their own souls.

Ayah: 114
Arabic: وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَارُونَ
Pickthal: And We verily gave grace unto Moses and Aaron,
Shakir: And certainly We conferred a favor on Musa and Haroun.
Yusuf Ali: Again (of old) We bestowed Our favour on Moses and Aaron,

Ayah: 115
Arabic: وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ
Pickthal: And saved them and their people from the great distress,
Shakir: And We delivered them both and their people from the mighty distress.
Yusuf Ali: And We delivered them and their people from (their) Great Calamity;

Ayah: 116
Arabic: وَنَصَرْنَاهُمْ فَكَانُوا هُمُ الْغَالِبِينَ
Pickthal: And helped them so that they became the victors.
Shakir: And We helped them, so they were the vanquishers.
Yusuf Ali: And We helped them, so they overcame (their troubles);

Ayah: 117
Arabic: وَآتَيْنَاهُمَا الْكِتَابَ الْمُسْتَبِينَ
Pickthal: And We gave them the clear Scripture
Shakir: And We gave them both the Book that made (things) clear.
Yusuf Ali: And We gave them the Book which helps to make things clear;

Ayah: 118
Arabic: وَهَدَيْنَاهُمَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ
Pickthal: And showed them the right path.
Shakir: And We guided them both on the right way.
Yusuf Ali: And We guided them to the Straight Way.

Ayah: 119
Arabic: وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِي الْآخِرِينَ
Pickthal: And We left for them among the later folk (the salutation):
Shakir: And We perpetuated (praise) to them among the later generations.
Yusuf Ali: And We left (this blessing) for them among generations (to come) in later times:

Ayah: 120
Arabic: سَلَامٌ عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَارُونَ
Pickthal: Peace be unto Moses and Aaron!
Shakir: Peace be on Musa and Haroun.
Yusuf Ali: "Peace and salutation to Moses and Aaron!"

Ayah: 121
Arabic: إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! thus do We reward the good.
Shakir: Even thus do We reward the doers of good.
Yusuf Ali: Thus indeed do We reward those who do right.

Ayah: 122
Arabic: إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! they are two of Our believing slaves.
Shakir: Surely they were both of Our believing servants.
Yusuf Ali: For they were two of our believing Servants.

Ayah: 123
Arabic: وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنْ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: And lo! Elias was of those sent (to warn),
Shakir: And Ilyas was most surely of the messengers.
Yusuf Ali: So also was Elias among those sent (by Us).

Ayah: 124
Arabic: إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
Pickthal: When he said unto his folk: Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Shakir: When he said to his people: Do you not guard (against evil)?
Yusuf Ali: Behold, he said to his people, "Will ye not fear (Allah)?

Ayah: 125
Arabic: أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ الْخَالِقِينَ
Pickthal: Will ye cry unto Baal and forsake the Best of creators,
Shakir: What! do you call upon Ba'l and forsake the best of the creators,
Yusuf Ali: "Will ye call upon Baal and forsake the Best of Creators,-

Ayah: 126
Arabic: وَاللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Pickthal: Allah, your Lord and Lord of your forefathers?
Shakir: Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore?
Yusuf Ali: "Allah, your Lord and Cherisher and the Lord and Cherisher of your fathers of old?"

Ayah: 127
Arabic: فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ
Pickthal: But they denied him, so they surely will be haled forth (to the doom)
Shakir: But they called him a liar, therefore they shall most surely be brought up.
Yusuf Ali: But they rejected him, and they will certainly be called up (for punishment),-

Ayah: 128
Arabic: إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ
Pickthal: Save single-minded slaves of Allah.
Shakir: But not the servants of Allah, the purified ones.
Yusuf Ali: Except the sincere and devoted Servants of Allah (among them).

Ayah: 129
Arabic: وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ
Pickthal: And we left for him among the later folk (the salutation):
Shakir: And We perpetuated to him (praise) among the later generations.
Yusuf Ali: And We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times:

Ayah: 130
Arabic: سَلَامٌ عَلَى إِلْ يَاسِينَ
Pickthal: Peace be unto Elias!
Shakir: Peace be on Ilyas.
Yusuf Ali: "Peace and salutation to such as Elias!"

Ayah: 131
Arabic: إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! thus do We reward the good.
Shakir: Even thus do We reward the doers of good.
Yusuf Ali: Thus indeed do We reward those who do right.

Ayah: 132
Arabic: إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! he is one of our believing slaves.
Shakir: Surely he was one of Our believing servants.
Yusuf Ali: For he was one of our believing Servants.

Ayah: 133
Arabic: وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَّمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: And lo! Lot verily was of those sent (to warn).
Shakir: And Lut was most surely of the messengers.
Yusuf Ali: So also was Lut among those sent (by Us).

Ayah: 134
Arabic: إِذْ نَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ
Pickthal: When We saved him and his household, every one,
Shakir: When We delivered him and his followers, all--
Yusuf Ali: Behold, We delivered him and his adherents, all

Ayah: 135
Arabic: إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِي الْغَابِرِينَ
Pickthal: Save an old woman among those who stayed behind;
Shakir: Except an old woman (who was) amongst those who tarried.
Yusuf Ali: Except an old woman who was among those who lagged behind:

Ayah: 136
Arabic: ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا الْآخَرِينَ
Pickthal: Then We destroyed the others.
Shakir: Then We destroyed the others.
Yusuf Ali: Then We destroyed the rest.

Ayah: 137
Arabic: وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ
Pickthal: And lo! ye verily pass by (the ruin of) them in the morning
Shakir: And most surely you pass by them in the morning,
Yusuf Ali: Verily, ye pass by their (sites), by day-

Ayah: 138
Arabic: وَبِاللَّيْلِ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
Pickthal: And at night-time; have ye then no sense?
Shakir: And at night; do you not then understand?
Yusuf Ali: And by night: will ye not understand?

Ayah: 139
Arabic: وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn)
Shakir: And Yunus was most surely of the messengers.
Yusuf Ali: So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us).

Ayah: 140
Arabic: إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ
Pickthal: When he fled unto the laden ship,
Shakir: When he ran away to a ship completely laden,
Yusuf Ali: When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden,

Ayah: 141
Arabic: فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنْ الْمُدْحَضِينَ
Pickthal: And then drew lots and was of those rejected;
Shakir: So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off.
Yusuf Ali: He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned:

Ayah: 142
Arabic: فَالْتَقَمَهُ الْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ
Pickthal: And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy;
Shakir: So the fish swallowed him while he did that for which he blamed himself
Yusuf Ali: Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame.

Ayah: 143
Arabic: فَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنْ الْمُسَبِّحِينَ
Pickthal: And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah)
Shakir: But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us),
Yusuf Ali: Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah,

Ayah: 144
Arabic: لَلَبِثَ فِي بَطْنِهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
Pickthal: He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised;
Shakir: He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised.
Yusuf Ali: He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection.

Ayah: 145
Arabic: فَنَبَذْنَاهُ بِالْعَرَاء وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ
Pickthal: Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick;
Shakir: Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick.
Yusuf Ali: But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness,

Ayah: 146
Arabic: وَأَنبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ
Pickthal: And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him;
Shakir: And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant.
Yusuf Ali: And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind.

Ayah: 147
Arabic: وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُ إِلَى مِئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ
Pickthal: And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more
Shakir: And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded.
Yusuf Ali: And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more.

Ayah: 148
Arabic: فَآمَنُوا فَمَتَّعْنَاهُمْ إِلَى حِينٍ
Pickthal: And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while.
Shakir: And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time.
Yusuf Ali: And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.

Ayah: 149
Arabic: فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ الْبَنُونَ
Pickthal: Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons?
Shakir: Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons.
Yusuf Ali: Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?-

Ayah: 150
Arabic: أَمْ خَلَقْنَا الْمَلَائِكَةَ إِنَاثًا وَهُمْ شَاهِدُونَ
Pickthal: Or created We the angels females while they were present?
Shakir: Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses?
Yusuf Ali: Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)?

Ayah: 151
Arabic: أَلَا إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ
Pickthal: Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say:
Shakir: Now surely it is of their own lie that they say:
Yusuf Ali: Is it not that they say, from their own invention,

Ayah: 152
Arabic: وَلَدَ اللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ
Pickthal: Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie.
Shakir: Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars.
Yusuf Ali: "Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars!

Ayah: 153
Arabic: أَصْطَفَى الْبَنَاتِ عَلَى الْبَنِينَ
Pickthal: (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons.
Shakir: Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons?
Yusuf Ali: Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons?

Ayah: 154
Arabic: مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
Pickthal: What aileth you? How judge ye?
Shakir: What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge?
Yusuf Ali: What is the matter with you? How judge ye?

Ayah: 155
Arabic: أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Pickthal: Will ye not then reflect?
Shakir: Will you not then mind?
Yusuf Ali: Will ye not then receive admonition?

Ayah: 156
Arabic: أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَانٌ مُّبِينٌ
Pickthal: Or have ye a clear warrant?
Shakir: Or have you a clear authority?
Yusuf Ali: Or have ye an authority manifest?

Ayah: 157
Arabic: فَأْتُوا بِكِتَابِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
Pickthal: Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful.
Shakir: Then bring your book, if you are truthful.
Yusuf Ali: Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful!

Ayah: 158
Arabic: وَجَعَلُوا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ الْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ
Pickthal: And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him).
Shakir: And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up;
Yusuf Ali: And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear(before his Judgment-Seat)!

Ayah: 159
Arabic: سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
Pickthal: Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him),
Shakir: Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe;
Yusuf Ali: Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)!

Ayah: 160
Arabic: إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ
Pickthal: Save single-minded slaves of Allah.
Shakir: But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones.
Yusuf Ali: Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted.

Ayah: 161
Arabic: فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ
Pickthal: Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship,
Shakir: So surely you and what you worship,
Yusuf Ali: For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship-

Ayah: 162
Arabic: مَا أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَاتِنِينَ
Pickthal: Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him.
Shakir: Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial,
Yusuf Ali: Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah,

Ayah: 163
Arabic: إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ الْجَحِيمِ
Pickthal: Save him who is to burn in hell.
Shakir: Save him who will go to hell.
Yusuf Ali: Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire!

Ayah: 164
Arabic: وَمَا مِنَّا إِلَّا لَهُ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُومٌ
Pickthal: There is not one of us but hath his known position.
Shakir: And there is none of us but has an assigned place,
Yusuf Ali: (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed;

Ayah: 165
Arabic: وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الصَّافُّونَ
Pickthal: Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks,
Shakir: And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks,
Yusuf Ali: "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service);

Ayah: 166
Arabic: وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْمُسَبِّحُونَ
Pickthal: Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise
Shakir: And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah).
Yusuf Ali: "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!"

Ayah: 167
Arabic: وَإِنْ كَانُوا لَيَقُولُونَ
Pickthal: And indeed they used to say:
Shakir: And surely they used to say:
Yusuf Ali: And there were those who said,

Ayah: 168
Arabic: لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْرًا مِّنْ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Pickthal: If we had but a reminder from the men of old
Shakir: Had we a reminder from those of yore,
Yusuf Ali: "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old,

Ayah: 169
Arabic: لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ
Pickthal: We would be single-minded slaves of Allah.
Shakir: We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones.
Yusuf Ali: "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!"

Ayah: 170
Arabic: فَكَفَرُوا بِهِ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
Pickthal: Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know.
Shakir: But (now) they disbelieve in it, so they will come to know.
Yusuf Ali: But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know!

Ayah: 171
Arabic: وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn)
Shakir: And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the messengers:
Yusuf Ali: Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us),

Ayah: 172
Arabic: إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ الْمَنصُورُونَ
Pickthal: That they verily would be helped,
Shakir: Most surely they shall be the assisted ones
Yusuf Ali: That they would certainly be assisted,

Ayah: 173
Arabic: وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ الْغَالِبُونَ
Pickthal: And that Our host, they verily would be the victors.
Shakir: And most surely Our host alone shall be the victorious ones.
Yusuf Ali: And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer.

Ayah: 174
Arabic: فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى حِينٍ
Pickthal: So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile,
Shakir: Therefore turn away from them till a time,
Yusuf Ali: So turn thou away from them for a little while,

Ayah: 175
Arabic: وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ
Pickthal: And watch, for they will (soon) see.
Shakir: And (then) see them, so they too shall see.
Yusuf Ali: And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)!

Ayah: 176
Arabic: أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ
Pickthal: Would they hasten on Our doom?
Shakir: What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement?
Yusuf Ali: Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment?

Ayah: 177
Arabic: فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَاء صَبَاحُ الْمُنذَرِينَ
Pickthal: But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned.
Shakir: But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones.
Yusuf Ali: But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)!

Ayah: 178
Arabic: وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى حِينٍ
Pickthal: Withdraw from them awhile
Shakir: And turn away from them till a time
Yusuf Ali: So turn thou away from them for a little while,

Ayah: 179
Arabic: وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ
Pickthal: And watch, for they will (soon) see.
Shakir: And (then) see, for they too shall see.
Yusuf Ali: And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)!

Ayah: 180
Arabic: سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
Pickthal: Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him)
Shakir: Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe.
Yusuf Ali: Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)!

Ayah: 181
Arabic: وَسَلَامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: And peace be unto those sent (to warn).
Shakir: And peace be on the messengers.
Yusuf Ali: And Peace on the messengers!

Ayah: 182
Arabic: وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds!
Shakir: And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
Yusuf Ali: And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds.
