Surah Al-Muddassir (the cloaked one, the man wearing a cloak)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Total Verses : 56 - Listen to Recitation of this Surah with Translation

Ayah: 1
Arabic:	يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ
Yusuf Ali:	O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)!

Ayah: 2
Arabic:	قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
Yusuf Ali:	Arise and deliver thy warning!

Ayah: 3
Arabic:	وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
Yusuf Ali:	And thy Lord do thou magnify!

Ayah: 4
Arabic:	وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
Yusuf Ali:	And thy garments keep free from stain!

Ayah: 5
Arabic:	وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ
Yusuf Ali:	And all abomination shun!

Ayah: 6
Arabic:	وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
Yusuf Ali:	Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)!

Ayah: 7
Arabic:	وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ
Yusuf Ali:	But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant!

Ayah: 8
Arabic:	فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ
Yusuf Ali:	Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded,

Ayah: 9
Arabic:	فَذَلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
Yusuf Ali:	That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,-

Ayah: 10
Arabic:	عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Far from easy for those without Faith.

Ayah: 11
Arabic:	ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
Yusuf Ali:	Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!-

Ayah: 12
Arabic:	وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
Yusuf Ali:	To whom I granted resources in abundance,

Ayah: 13
Arabic:	وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
Yusuf Ali:	And sons to be by his side!-

Ayah: 14
Arabic:	وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُ تَمْهِيدًا
Yusuf Ali:	To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable!

Ayah: 15
Arabic:	ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
Yusuf Ali:	Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);-

Ayah: 16
Arabic:	كَلَّا إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِآيَاتِنَا عَنِيدًا
Yusuf Ali:	By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory!

Ayah: 17
Arabic:	سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا
Yusuf Ali:	Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities!

Ayah: 18
Arabic:	إِنَّهُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
Yusuf Ali:	For he thought and he plotted;-

Ayah: 19
Arabic:	فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
Yusuf Ali:	And woe to him! How he plotted!-

Ayah: 20
Arabic:	ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
Yusuf Ali:	Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!-

Ayah: 21
Arabic:	ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	Then he looked round;

Ayah: 22
Arabic:	ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	Then he frowned and he scowled;

Ayah: 23
Arabic:	ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	Then he turned back and was haughty;

Ayah: 24
Arabic:	فَقَالَ إِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
Yusuf Ali:	Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old;

Ayah: 25
Arabic:	إِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ
Yusuf Ali:	"This is nothing but the word of a mortal!"

Ayah: 26
Arabic:	سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire!

Ayah: 27
Arabic:	وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ
Yusuf Ali:	And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is?

Ayah: 28
Arabic:	لَا تُبْقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ
Yusuf Ali:	Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!-

Ayah: 29
Arabic:	لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
Yusuf Ali:	Darkening and changing the colour of man!

Ayah: 30
Arabic:	عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	Over it are Nineteen.

Ayah: 31
Arabic:	وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَائِكَةً وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا وَلَا يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَذَا مَثَلًا كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَن يَشَاء وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاء وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَى لِلْبَشَرِ
Yusuf Ali:	And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order thatthe People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers mayincrease in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of theBook and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease andthe Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus dothAllah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and nonecan know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than awarning to mankind.

Ayah: 32
Arabic:	كَلَّا وَالْقَمَرِ
Yusuf Ali:	Nay, verily: By the Moon,

Ayah: 33
Arabic:	وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	And by the Night as it retreateth,

Ayah: 34
Arabic:	وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,-

Ayah: 35
Arabic:	إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ
Yusuf Ali:	This is but one of the mighty (portents),

Ayah: 36
Arabic:	نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
Yusuf Ali:	A warning to mankind,-

Ayah: 37
Arabic:	لِمَن شَاء مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
Yusuf Ali:	To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;-

Ayah: 38
Arabic:	كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
Yusuf Ali:	Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds.

Ayah: 39
Arabic:	إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ
Yusuf Ali:	Except the Companions of the Right Hand.

Ayah: 40
Arabic:	فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءلُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	(They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other,

Ayah: 41
Arabic:	عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	And (ask) of the Sinners:

Ayah: 42
Arabic:	مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	"What led you into Hell Fire?"

Ayah: 43
Arabic:	قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ
Yusuf Ali:	They will say: "We were not of those who prayed;

Ayah: 44
Arabic:	وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	"Nor were we of those who fed the indigent;

Ayah: 45
Arabic:	وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	"But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;

Ayah: 46
Arabic:	وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
Yusuf Ali:	"And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,

Ayah: 47
Arabic:	حَتَّى أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ
Yusuf Ali:	"Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain."

Ayah: 48
Arabic:	فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them.

Ayah: 49
Arabic:	فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?-

Ayah: 50
Arabic:	كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
Yusuf Ali:	As if they were affrighted asses,

Ayah: 51
Arabic:	فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Fleeing from a lion!

Ayah: 52
Arabic:	بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَى صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
Yusuf Ali:	Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out!

Ayah: 53
Arabic:	كَلَّا بَل لَا يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ
Yusuf Ali:	By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter,

Ayah: 54
Arabic:	كَلَّا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ
Yusuf Ali:	Nay, this surely is an admonition:

Ayah: 55
Arabic:	فَمَن شَاء ذَكَرَهُ
Yusuf Ali:	Let any who will, keep it in remembrance!

Ayah: 56
Arabic:	وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاء اللَّهُ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ
Yusuf Ali:	But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness.
