In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

| Arabic: |
وَالسَّمَاء
ذَاتِ
الْبُرُوجِ
|
| Pickthal: |
By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars, |
| Shakir: |
I swear by the mansions of the stars, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
By the sky, (displaying) the Zodiacal Signs; |
| Ayah: 2 |
|
| Arabic: |
وَالْيَوْمِ
الْمَوْعُودِ
|
| Pickthal: |
And by the Promised Day. |
| Shakir: |
And the promised day, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
By the promised Day (of Judgment); |
| Ayah: 3 |
|
| Arabic: |
وَشَاهِدٍ
وَمَشْهُودٍ
|
| Pickthal: |
And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony, |
| Shakir: |
And the bearer of witness and those against whom the witness is borne. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
By one that witnesses, and the subject of the witness;- |
| Ayah: 4 |

| Arabic: |
قُتِلَ
أَصْحَابُ
الْأُخْدُودِ
|
| Pickthal: |
(Self-)destroyed were the owners of the ditch |
| Shakir: |
Cursed be the makers of the pit, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Woe to the makers of the pit (of fire), |
| Ayah: 5 |

| Arabic: |
النَّارِ
ذَاتِ
الْوَقُودِ
|
| Pickthal: |
Of the fuel-fed fire, |
| Shakir: |
Of the fire (kept burning) with fuel, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Fire supplied (abundantly) with fuel: |
| Ayah: 6 |

| Arabic: |
إِذْ
هُمْ
عَلَيْهَا
قُعُودٌ
|
| Pickthal: |
When they sat by it, |
| Shakir: |
When they sat by it, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Behold! they sat over against the (fire), |
| Ayah: 7 |
|
| Arabic: |
وَهُمْ
عَلَى مَا
يَفْعَلُونَ
بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ
شُهُودٌ
|
| Pickthal: |
And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers. |
| Shakir: |
And they were witnesses of what they did with the believers. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
And they witnessed (all) that they were doing against the Believers. |
| Ayah: 8 |
|
| Arabic: |
وَمَا
نَقَمُوا
مِنْهُمْ
إِلَّا أَن
يُؤْمِنُوا
بِاللَّهِ
الْعَزِيزِ
الْحَمِيدِ
|
| Pickthal: |
They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise, |
| Shakir: |
And they did not take vengeance on them for aught except that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Praised, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
And they ill-treated them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise!- |
| Ayah: 9 |

الَّذِي
لَهُ
مُلْكُ
السَّمَاوَاتِ
وَالْأَرْضِ
وَاللَّهُ
عَلَى
كُلِّ
شَيْءٍ
شَهِيدٌ
|
| Pickthal: |
Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness. |
| Shakir: |
Whose is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is a Witness of all things. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Him to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness to all things. |
| Ayah: 10 |

| Arabic: |
إِنَّ
الَّذِينَ
فَتَنُوا
الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ
ثُمَّ لَمْ
يَتُوبُوا
فَلَهُمْ
عَذَابُ
جَهَنَّمَ
وَلَهُمْ
عَذَابُ
الْحَرِيقِ
|
| Pickthal: |
Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom ofburning. |
| Shakir: |
Surely (as for) those who persecute the believing men and the believing women, then do not repent, they shall have the chastisement of hell, and they shall have the chastisement of burning. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty ofHell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire. |
| Ayah: 11 |

| Arabic: |
إِنَّ
الَّذِينَ
آمَنُوا
وَعَمِلُوا
الصَّالِحَاتِ
لَهُمْ
جَنَّاتٌ
تَجْرِي
مِن
تَحْتِهَا
الْأَنْهَارُ
ذَلِكَ
الْفَوْزُ
الْكَبِيرُ
|
| Pickthal: |
Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success. |
| Shakir: |
Surely (as for) those who believe and do good, they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow, that is the great achievement. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfilment ofall desires), |
| Ayah: 12 |
|
| Arabic: |
إِنَّ
بَطْشَ
رَبِّكَ
لَشَدِيدٌ
|
| Pickthal: |
Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern. |
| Shakir: |
Surely the might of your Lord is great. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Truly strong is the Grip (and Power) of thy Lord. |
| Ayah: 13 |
|
| Arabic: |
إِنَّهُ
هُوَ
يُبْدِئُ
وَيُعِيدُ
|
| Pickthal: |
Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth, |
| Shakir: |
Surely He it is Who originates and reproduces, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life). |
| Ayah: 14 |
|
| Arabic: |
وَهُوَ
الْغَفُورُ
الْوَدُودُ
|
| Pickthal: |
And He is the Forgiving, the Loving, |
| Shakir: |
And He is the Forgiving, the Loving, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Full of Loving-Kindness, |
| Ayah: 15 |

ذُو
الْعَرْشِ
الْمَجِيدُ
|
| Pickthal: |
Lord of the Throne of Glory, |
| Shakir: |
Lord of the Arsh, the Glorious, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Lord of the Throne of Glory, |
| Ayah: 16 |
|
| Arabic: |
فَعَّالٌ
لِّمَا
يُرِيدُ
|
| Pickthal: |
Doer of what He will. |
| Shakir: |
The great doer of what He will. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Doer (without let) of all that He intends. |
| Ayah: 17 |
|
| Arabic: |
هَلْ
أَتَاكَ
حَدِيثُ
الْجُنُودِ
|
| Pickthal: |
Hath there come unto thee the story of the hosts |
| Shakir: |
Has not there come to you the story of the hosts, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Has the story reached thee, of the forces- |
| Ayah: 18 |
|
| Arabic: |
فِرْعَوْنَ
وَثَمُودَ
|
| Pickthal: |
Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud? |
| Shakir: |
Of Firon and Samood? |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Of Pharaoh and the Thamud? |
| Ayah: 19 |
|
| Arabic: |
بَلِ
الَّذِينَ
كَفَرُوا
فِي
تَكْذِيبٍ
|
| Pickthal: |
Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denial |
| Shakir: |
Nay! those who disbelieve are in (the act of) giving the lie to the truth. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
And yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)! |
| Ayah: 20 |
|
| Arabic: |
وَاللَّهُ
مِن
وَرَائِهِم
مُّحِيطٌ
|
| Pickthal: |
And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them. |
| Shakir: |
And Allah encompasses them on every side. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
But Allah doth encompass them from behind! |
| Ayah: 21 |
|
| Arabic: |
بَلْ
هُوَ
قُرْآنٌ
مَّجِيدٌ
|
| Pickthal: |
Nay, but it is a glorious Qur'an. |
| Shakir: |
Nay! it is a glorious Quran, |
| Yusuf Ali: |
Day, this is a Glorious Qur'an, |
| Ayah: 22 |

فِي
لَوْحٍ
مَّحْفُوظٍ
|
| Pickthal: |
On a guarded tablet. |
| Shakir: |
In a guarded tablet. |
| Yusuf Ali: |
(Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved! |
